Hello Fellow Dance Educators and Dance Education Researchers:

I am a dance education researcher at Arizona State University who studies dance competition culture. I am currently conducting a project to examine if ideas about what is considered age appropriate dancing (technique, artistry, etc.) in dance competition culture have shifted in the last 30 years.

For the purposes of this research, dance competition culture refers to the regional and national competitive events that feature contemporary, hip hop, jazz, tap, and ballet and the private sector studios, students, and guardians who participate.

I am seeking former dance competition dancers between the ages of 18-50 to participate. Participation will involve communicating with other former competition dances through an online focus group hosted on Facebook. Please consider participating if your previous training/education included competition dance, and please forward this invitation to any of your current students, colleagues, or contacts with connections to dance competition culture.

If this sounds like something you would like to participate in or that you have questions about, please email me at karen.schupp@asu.edu.

Sincerely,

Karen Schupp

Hi Karen,
Count me in! I would love to know more about this as this has been a topic discussed all the time.
