Teaching Ballet Evolves
Author Last Post
Last year, when I took the course "Introduction to Laban Movement Analysis" I completed a research paper and project outside of class assignments. By exploring Laban Movement Analysis and Bartenieff Fundamentals I evaluated why an expressive approach to teaching ballet is more useful in fostering the growth of both ballet and modern dancers. During this research, I interviewed Cadence Whittier and discussed her methods and techniques of teaching ballet while incorporating LMA and BF. After she completed her research and I performed my presentation with my peers, dancers were amazed at how much simpler ballet is with Laban approaches and Bartenieff Fundamentals. In the future, if and when I teach ballet, I will apply these methods and techniques for the benefit of my students.
