State Conference at Santa Clara University

We are pleased to announce our theme for our CDEA State Conference 2018 at Santa Clara University: Moving Bodies | Changing Minds. When we cultivate dancer artistry in our classrooms and studios, and create with our students, we engage the whole person: body, heart, mind, soul, psyche. Thoughts lead into feeling states and embodied actions; actions unmask thoughts and feelings. At the conference, we explore and express new ideas, abilities and notions of what dance is and how to teach it, and envision new choreographic, pedagogic or communal landscapes in which dance can flourish for more learners in more equitable conditions. In becoming more culturally competent, in considering who is not at the teaching table, in bringing dance to less served communities, we contribute to the efforts to fashion a more equitable dance learning climate in California. As we accompany our students through the kinesthetic challenges of dance, we are also mindful of the inner journey of identity formation our students are on. The more informed and reflective our practices are, the more we naturally and intentionally innovate the field and move it forward. We offer this conference as a way for you to indulge yourself in compelling, diverse styles and approaches to training and tune in to the moment of the moving body while also being exposed to stimulating conversation and viewpoints from the state and national discourse on the arts.
The 1.5 day conference offers stimulating master classes, panels and short-form ignite conversations on the latest and greatest ideas springing from our teacher leader members from all sectors from early childhood to professional and community companies. The California Dance Education Association statewide conference is a space for reconnection mid-year with why we dance, how we dance and to consider very deeply who we bring dance to. As we prepare to be the state affiliate host of the National Dance Education Organization NDEO conference in La Jolla, California next fall, we hope that you make an extra special effort to join us for this day and a half on Jan 27 & 28, 2018 at the Theatre & Dance Facilities on the beautiful and historic campus of Santa Clara University in Santa Clara.

Registration includes 1.5 days of master classes, panels, sessions and our organizational business meeting. We provide beverages, snacks and lunch on Saturday. Light continental breakfast Sunday morning.
Early Bird Rate: $85 members/$115 non-members
Our early-bird registration period goes from August 15 to December 15, 2017.
Regular Rate: $105 members/$135 non-members
Our regular rate registration period goes from Dec 16, 2017 to January 20, 2018.
Late Registration: $135 members/$165 non-members

This year we have a single fee for college and graduate students no matter when they register: $40. However, we have a limited number of student slots. We recommend students register by Dec. 15. Get your students invested (and registered) early to benefit their own dance educations and careers!
