As studios and schools practice social distancing dance teachers now need to create virtual classes that continue to support their communities from a distance. Dance is an opportunity to keep people moving while at home, but teachers now face new challenges on how to best support students with disabilities through remote learning. This webinar will propose best practices, consider remote accommodations, and explore the opportunities of virtual dance to examine disability dance. Finally, we will share the different tools the community is using. This workshop is created with K-12 educators in mind but everyone is welcome to join and consider the accessibility of virtual dance.

Widening the Dance Circle: Envisioning a Collaborative Future (aired 8/5/20)

This panel will highlight the trajectory and recent work in Dance 2050: A ThinkTank for Dance in Higher Education. The themes and values of the Dance 2050 Vision Document will be connected to the current landscape in higher education and the challenges faced in 2020. The discussion aims to be a stepping stone of connection to all sectors as we drive progress and positive change in dance education. The Dance 2050 annual meeting of the Think Tank will take place in November 2020 with the goal of reconsidering our primary values, recognizing the transitions we all experienced in 2020, and building action plans that include all sectors of dance education.

We’ll celebrate what’s gone well, learn what to expect for the next school year, and begin the steps needed to ensure dance education for all students.

The thing is we don't know - no one knows what to do, how to navigate, and what the future looks like. We are all just doing the best we can moment to moment. As studio owners and teachers, we are used to planning ahead but COVID-19 has thrown us a curveball. Our schedules and routines no longer exist as we know them, and our previous plans are out the window. We are missing that important connection with the students that fuels and feeds us and the explosion of online dance options presents its own challenges and long-term implications.
