Performances

Form & Experiment

NDEO and California Dance Education Association (CDEA) are thrilled to present two concerts in one evening as part of the 20th Annual National Dance Education Organization Conference in La Jolla. Both programs celebrate local, national, and international dance educators whose continuing commitment to their professional performing careers informs their pedagogy.
  • Date: Saturday, October 6, 2018
  • 6 PM Show: Form features nearly a dozen short dances, including work by Dr. Ayo Walker, Gina Bolles Sorensen and Kyle Sorensen, Audrey Baran, Karla Navarro, Vannia Ibarguen, Leslie Seiters, Sadie Weinberg, Jana Taylor, Faith Jensen-Ismay, Martha Hart Eddy, and Rachel Turner.
  • 8:30 PM Show: Experiment is a longer-form concert with four dances by Nina Martin, Lux Boreal/Matthew Armstrong, Holly Johnston, and Jess Humphrey & Eric Geiger.
  • Location: Dance Studio 3 black box theater in the Molli and Arthur Wagner Dance Building at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), 1.5 miles from the conference center.

Trolley Dances

Hop off and on the green and blue trolley to view 6 dances in unexpected places performed by 50 of San Diego's most talented professional dancers. The unique nature of "Trolley Dances" is that the dances are created on-site, influenced by the architectural components of the location, the sounds and smells of the area, and the this history or intended use of the space.
  • Dates: October 5, 6, 7, 2018
  • Times: 2 hour guided tours start on Saturday 10/6 and Sunday 10/7 at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm; and on Friday 10/5 at 12pm, 1pm, and 2pm. 
  • Kids on Board: Field trips take place on Friday 10/05. Tours begin at 9am, 9:30am, 10am, 10:30am, 11:00am. 
  • Location: Tours begin at the Hazard Center Trolley Station and continue along the green and orange lines. FREE ample parking at the starting point.

Trolley Dances is unique in that the audience travels along a Trolley Line to see 6 professional dances created in unexpected places such as city buildings and public parks. Each year a different trolley line and different locations are selected. The idea is to: 
  1. Expose our current patron base to public transportation and neighborhoods they may not have otherwise experienced. 
  2. Enrich communities by exposing the general public to unexpected performance art in various neighborhoods. 
  3. Build social capital by getting people involved, by connecting organizations to each other and by giving participants experience in organizing and working with local government and nonprofits.
  4. Pay wages to 55 dance artists and choreographers. 
This year sponsors include The City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture, The National Endowment For the Arts, The California Arts Council, and The Zinser Foundation. 3,000 ticketed audience members are expected as well as thousands of casual on-lookers. 8 schools from 4 districts city districts will participate in 'Kids on Board'. This program provides interactive dance workshops and field trips to students that may not otherwise be exposed to public transportation, new neighborhoods, and professional dance.
