NDEO and the Priorities

The Priorities for Dance Education, and the goals and strategies for their implementation as devised by the task force, serve as a framework for NDEO’s work as a member services organization and as the national voice for dance education in the United States. With the Priorities in focus, NDEO is taking on new initiatives to:

Connect Connect the Field by...

  • Partnering with ISMETA to host a Special Topic Conference, Emerging Pathways within Somatic Movement and Dance Education in July 2019.
  • Fostering and furthering our partnerships with organizations such as Americans for the Arts, Dizzy Feet Foundation, The College Board, Arts Education Partnership, and Dance/USA, ensuring that NDEO and our members continue to have a “place at the table” in national discussions in dance, arts, and education.
  • Creating a National College Dance Directory to connect high school students and their teachers with information about colleges offering dance and dance education programs.

Build Build Knowledge by...

  • Hosting the Guest Blogger Series, allowing members to share their knowledge, experience, and stories on an informal platform
  • Expanding and promoting the Registry of Dance Educators (RDE), to establish the highest standards for teaching and learning dance in the United States, and to strengthen the role of the dance educator and the profession of dance in American education, culture, and life.

Cultivate Cultivate Leadership by...

  • Hosting a Mentorship Program to connect new K-12 dance educators with experienced teachers who can guide them through the first challenging years on the job. This program offers new teachers with the support they need for success in the field, and more seasoned teachers with an opportunity to take on a leadership role.
  • Growing the NDEO Board of Directors Committees, to provide dance education professionals with new ways to foster leadership skills, connect with NDEO leadership, and serve the organization
  • Providing opportunities for students to volunteer at the National Conference, offering an opportunity to work alongside NDEO staff and develop skills needed for dance education leadership
