At NDEO, we have been inspired by the care, compassion, and thoughtfulness of the dance community’s response to the challenges of Covid-19 and in beginning to address the systemic racism within our field. We are proud to serve the entire field of dance education, especially the teachers working so hard in challenging circumstances to make a difference in their students’ lives everyday. As your national service organization, NDEO is here to support you in that important work. We connect you to an international network of dance educators working in every branch of the field, and provide the resources and professional development that you need right now.

In 2020, NDEO's National Conference will be offered "virtually"- www.ndeo.org/conf2020.
With an NDEO Membership, you have access to online professional development courses, digital journals, job postings, mentorship, blog posts, special interest groups, online forums, and a new virtual version of our National Conference this October. We provide research-based, developmentally appropriate standards, and tools for dance teachers to use as they implement them in their classes. We advocate for dance education nationally, and offer programs that help educators promote their dance programs and recognize their students, such as the National Honor Society for Dance Arts. In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, in March we began a series of webinars related to teaching online teaching in all sectors of the field. We have been hosting ongoing meetings of our Special Interest Groups (SIGs), connecting NDEO members who work in different branches of the field to share ideas, insight, and inspiration to get with one another through these challenging circumstances.
At the heart of NDEO is our mission to advance dance education, and our vision of dance education for all. For over 20 years, we have worked toward fulfilling our vision of a nation that affords every citizen equal access and opportunity to quality dance arts education regardless of gender, age, race or culture, socio-economic status, ability or interest. We recognize that we still have a long way to go, but we are committed to working with our members to bring this vision to fruition. One of our primary goals is to create space for our members to share and learn from one another. Our Dance & Equity Online Forum and Special Interest Group facilitate important discussions related to inclusion, diversity, equity, and access within dance and education. As an organization, we are working toward greater equity and access in our programs and services, especially our National Conference. In 2020, we are offering a new sliding scale, “pay what you can” registration option for attendees of our virtual Conference, recognizing that the Covid-19 pandemic has created financial hardship for many dance educators.
If you share our mission and vision, we invite you to join our special community of passionate individuals and institutions committed to dance education during our July Membership Drive. NDEO is the largest dance education membership organization in the country, and as such, we partner with other major organizations and institutions to make sure that dance has a voice in national discussions on art and education. By working with groups like the National Coalition for Core Arts Standards (NCCAS), State Education Agency Directors of Arts Education (SEADAE), Arts Education Partnership, and Americans for the Arts, we advocate for dance education on the national level. When you join NDEO, you become an important part of these advocacy efforts and help promote our shared belief in the value of dance education and the impact that dance can have on our world today.
