REMINDER: To start a chapter of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA) for the benefit of your students at your school, you must sign up for an Institutional Membership.
All Individual and Student NDEO Memberships include:
Individual Memberships
Professional Member: $115 a year Individuals actively working/teaching in dance or dance education: dance educators, dancers and choreographers, dance specialists in medicine/science and technology, arts educators and administrators. Also for individuals interested in supporting or promoting dance or dance education. Includes:
- Eligibility to take OPDI courses (application fee waived; separate course tuition fees apply)
- Online Subscription to the Journal of Dance Education and Dance Education in Practice
Ph.D. / Ed.D. Candidate Member: $115 a year Individuals pursuing a Ph.D / Ed.D. in any field related to dance and dance education. This member type is not considered a student membership and does not qualify for student conference rates. Includes:
- Eligibility to take OPDI courses (application fee waived; separate course tuition fees apply)
- Online Subscription to the Journal of Dance Education and Dance Education in Practice
Young Professional: $85 a year A one-year non-renewable membership for individuals who are within 3 years of graduation from a high school, community college, college (associate degrees), university (bachelor's or master's degrees) or conservatory program and who are teaching or working in the field of dance or dance education. Must provide proof of recent graduation date (i.e. a diploma or transcript) to membership@ndeo.org. Includes:
- Eligibility to take OPDI courses (application fee waived; separate course tuition fees apply)
- Online Subscription to the Journal of Dance Education and Dance Education in Practice
Retiree Member: $60 a year Individuals retired from a career in dance or dance education. Includes:
- Eligibility to take OPDI courses (application fee waived; separate course tuition fees apply))
- Online Subscription to Dance Education in Practice for an additional $20
- Online Subscription to the Journal of Dance Education for an additional $25
Student Memberships
Available to full time matriculated students (Proof of Enrollment is Required). Full time is generally defined as a course load of 10 to 12 credit hours or 4 courses a semester. Being a student in OPDI alone, or in a low residency part-time program or PhD/EdD program, does not qualify one for an NDEO Student Membership. In order to register for conference at the Student rates you must be a Student Member.
Graduate Student: $75 a year Graduate students pursuing master's degrees in the dance or dance education field. Includes:
- If the institution attended is an NDEO Post Secondary Institutional Member, discounts on NDEO National Conference registration fees are available.
- Eligibility to take OPDI courses (application fee waived; separate course tuition fees apply)
- Online Subscription to the Journal of Dance Education and Dance Education in Practice
Undergraduate Student: $50 a year Undergraduate students pursuing associate or bachelor degrees in the dance or dance education field. Includes:
- If the institution attended is an NDEO Post Secondary Institutional Member, discounts on NDEO National Conference registration fees are available.
- Eligibility to take OPDI courses (application fee waived; separate course tuition fees apply)
- Online Subscription to Dance Education in Practice
- Online Subscription to the Journal of Dance Education for an additional $25
Institutional Memberships
All NDEO Institutional Memberships provide an institution with the following benefits:
- Eligibility to start a chapter of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA) for the benefit of the institution’s students
- Ability to offer a 30% discount on Individual Professional Memberships to faculty members (limits apply; see types below). Discount not retroactive for previous new memberships or renewals. Available to teachers, faculty, or administrators at the institution. To request discount codes, the main contact must email membership@ndeo.org.
- Dual State Affiliate Membership (where available)

- Eligibility to attend NDEO conferences (separate registration fees apply)
- Discounted Conference Proposal Submission Fee
- Eligibility to take OPDI courses (application fee waived; separate course tuition fees apply). To take advantage of this, please contact the NDEO office to set up an individual login for your OPDI academic records.
- Online Subscription to the Journal of Dance Education and Dance Education in Practice
- Full access to NDEO's Dance Education Literature and Research descriptive index (DELRdi)
- Networking via the NDEO Online Forums, Special Interest Groups, and Membership Directory
- Access to resources, documents, professional development, and the most up to date information concerning Standards for Dance Education
Institutional Member Types
Institutional Member - Dance Studio: $185 a year Dance studios and academies that are primarily educational organizations; may produce recitals but are not primarily presenting organizations. Eligible for up to 2 faculty discounts on Professional Memberships. Discount not retroactive for previous new memberships or previous renewals. For full member benefits, please see above.
Institutional Member – K-12 Schools: $185 a year Public and private schools with grades Pre-K to 12th that offer dance classes to their students. Eligible for up to 2 faculty discounts on Professional Memberships. Discount not retroactive for previous new memberships or previous renewals. For full member benefits, please see above.
Institutional Member – Performing Arts Organization: $185 a year Dance education departments of performing arts organizations (e.g. San Francisco Ballet, New York City Ballet, Alvin Ailey), community center organizations that offer dance programs (e.g. YMCA), and dance service organizations (e.g. DanceUSA, Dance Heritage Coalition). Eligible for up to 2 faculty discounts on Professional Memberships. Discount not retroactive for previous new memberships or previous renewals. For full member benefits, please see above.
Institutional Member – Higher Education Institution: $250 a year Colleges and universities that offer associate, bachelor's, master's degrees, or dance minors in dance or dance education, as well as any type of conservatory program that caters to the post-high school student. In addition to the benefits included with all NDEO Institutional Memberships, Higher Education Institutional Memberships include:
- Eligible for up to 4 faculty discounts on Professional Memberships. Discount not retroactive for previous new memberships or renewals.
- Eligibility to start a NDEO Student Chapter for the benefit of the institution’s students
- NDEO National Conference registration fee discounts for NDEO Student Members who attend the institution (separate NDEO Student Membership required) ~~ this benefit is not available in 2020 or 2021 as the discounted "pay-what-you-can" registration fees are less than previous student conference registration fees.
- Eligibility to list your school's information in our online Higher Ed Directory of college dance programs.
