JAZZ DANCE IN ALL ITS MANIFESTATIONS
DEADLINE: JAN. 15, 2017

The term jazz dance has multiple meanings and styles of expression that have evolved over the past century. The roots of jazz dance are African, and as they came into contact with European and Latin-based influences, myriad styles were created. The Journal of Dance Education welcomes submissions on all types of jazz dance and related forms, especially regarding the teaching of these forms and styles. Topics include but are not limited to:
-The teaching of specific types of jazz such as vernacular, theatrical, jazz tap, Latin, Afro-Caribbean, rhythm-generated, concert, contemporary, improvisational, pop, street, and funk.
-New research on acclaimed teachers/choreographers/companies in the field
-Teaching jazz dance in the private studio setting
-Teaching jazz dance in the higher education setting
-Jazz in the dance history curriculum
-Lindy revival in teaching and performance
-Performance/reconstruction of historical jazz works
-Creating jazz dance curriculum for varied populations
-Training of professional jazz dancers
-Jazz in the convention/competition setting
-Related forms including hip-hop, tap, and Broadway dance

Submissions will undergo a double-blind, peer-reviewed process for possible publication during 2017-2018.

Other Topics:
In addition to papers on jazz dance, articles are welcome at any time for submission in all areas of dance education including but not limited to research, assessment, creativity, dance administration, advocacy, new curriculums, race &/or gender issues, somatic practices, and technology.

Submissions may be for either the In-Practice column (1,500-3,500 words including references) or the Feature column (5,000-8,000 words including references). All manuscripts should be submitted online via the ScholarOne website.
