Preparing your RDE Application 


The RDE application program is on-hold while the Professional Teaching Standards for Dance Arts (PTSDA) and RDE are undergoing a review and revision process.

The RDE application must be completed online. NDEO has partnered with Acceptd to provide the online platform.  Once you click on the application link it will redirect you to the Acceptd website and you will need to create an account with a user name and password.Acceptd Logo

                 

Part 1:

RDE Application Guidelines
  1. Applicant Contact Information and Demographics
  2. NDEO Membership ID #
  3. Current Teaching Assignment Details - Studio/School/Institution name, Title of Class, Level, Ages, Class Time, Years - Sample Grid Format
  4. Dance Environments, Education Level Completed, Certifications, Dance Genres -- Checkboxes
  5. Dance Training Grid
  6. Dance Performance and Administrative Experience Grid - if applicable  
  7. Dance Teaching Experience Grid - Highlights 10 years of dance and dance education teaching experience. Evidence will include a summary of employment history in the dance teaching field with employer, city/state, contact info of someone who can verify your employment, type of classes taught, level, class time, ages, years teaching this class.  
  8. Upload Evidence of Professional Development for past 5 years
  9. Upload Evidence of Service and Leadership in the Field 
  10. Why do you want to earn the RDE credential? 500 word essay
  11. Professional Bio (200 word limit)
  12. Upload a Resume/CV
  13. Upload a color photo Headshot (optional)
  14. Upload two letters of Recommendation, one from a professional colleague and one from a current or former employer who can attest to the applicant’s skill and expertise as a seasoned, highly qualified dance educator. 
  15. Upload a signed copy of the RDE Code of Ethics     

Part 2:


1. Proof of completion of OPDI-101: Professional Teaching Standards for Dance Arts or of the test-out option. Evidence will be an uploaded PDF or JPEG file of the Continuing Education Unit certificate, transcript, or some other written proof.

2. Proof of completion of OPDI-201: Professional Portfolio Development with the PTSDA. Evidence will be an uploaded PDF or JPEG file of the Continuing Education Unit certificate, transcript, or some other written proof. Applicant may choose to upload their Portfolio, even without completing the OPDI-201 course, if they believe their portfolio addresses all PTSDA standards.

3. Submission of a professional portfolio that provides evidence of meeting all 8 of the Professional Teaching Standards for Dance Arts (PTSDA). Evidence may include videos of student/teacher demonstrations in dance class or performance (if very clear and unobstructed), lesson plans, student class work or projects, teacher or student written assignments, works from professional development, visuals/photos of class collaborations, and documents (articles or white papers written) of any kind. Format: Evidence is grouped into the 8 standards described in the PTSDA. The Portfolio Checklist, found in the second half of the PTSDA Guidelines, is devoted to explaining portfolio documentation and examples are given to assist the applicant fulfill this requirement. Applicants should read the PTSDA Guidelines and Portfolio Checklist and contact the Advisory Board Director of the RDE to clarify portfolio requirements. You will upload the evidence in various file types into the online application.

4. Submission of a final 15 minute (edited) Teaching video.

The video should show you teaching a real class to students – warm ups and/or barre, center work, culminating movement and/or end of class work. It can show student performance in class and how you, as the teacher, give instructions, observe and assess students’ work, offer verbal and non-verbal corrections, indicate resources you may incorporate, build a positive and inclusive environment, and implement industry standards. The evaluation is based on your instructional and interpersonal interactions with your students.  Note: The video may be shot with a cell phone camera but make sure there is appropriate lighting, good audio, and clear focus.  It is suggested that you edit various pieces of footage together that highlights the items listed above. Make sure the video begins with an introductory “slate” that states the Applicant’s first and last name, the month and year the video was uploaded to the application, and the title “RDE Application – Final Teaching Video”.  To view the evaluation rubric for this Teaching video, Rubric for Teaching Video.
